WorldSkills 2005 Vocational Skills Competition in Helsinki 26-29 May 2005

In the WorldSkills Competition, organised every second year, young people under 23 years of age from all over the world compete in the skills of their vocational fields. This is the first time that the WorldSkills Competition has been organised in the Nordic Countries. The event will take place at the Helsinki Fair Centre, which provides excellent facilities for an international event. Indeed, the WorldSkills competition is the most extensive event ever organised at the Helsinki Fair Centre. About 150,000 visitors are expected to attend the event over the four days of competition.

There are 34 official competition skills and five demonstration skills. The skills represent the fields of technology, industry, and services. About 800 competitors from nearly 40 countries will participate in the competition. Finland has entered a competitor in every skill category. Canada comes with a team of 28 competitors, 26 experts, two team leaders and 33 observers. Calgary is the host city of WorldSkills 2009.

WorldSkills 2005 ammattitaitokilpailut Helsingissä 26.-29.5.2005

Joka toinen vuosi järjestettävissä WorldSkills -ammattitaidon MM-kilpailuissa alle 23-vuotiaat nuoret ympäri maailmaa kilpailevat omaa ammattialaansa vastaavassa lajissa. WorldSkills -ammattitaitokilpailut järjestetään ensimmäistä kertaa Pohjoismaissa. Tapahtumapaikaksi on valittu Helsingin Messukeskus, joka tarjoaa erinomaiset puitteet kansainväliselle suurtapahtumalle. Ammattitaidon MM-kilpailut ovatkin suurin Messukeskuksessa koskaan järjestetty tapahtuma. Katsojia tapahtumaan odotetaan saapuvan noin 150 000 neljän kilpailupäivän aikana.

Virallisia kilpailulajeja on 34, joiden lisäksi kilpaillaan viidessä näytöslajissa. Lajit edustavat tekniikan, teollisuuden ja palvelujen aloja. Kilpailijoita saapuu lähes 40 maasta yhteensä noin 800. Suomi osallistuu joka lajiin. Kanada lähettää joukkueen jossa on 28 kilpailijaa, 26 eksperttiä, 2 joukkueenjohtajaa ja 33 tarkkailijaa. Calgary toimii vuoden 2009 kisaisäntänä.
