New head of the Canada Council for the Arts
On September 16, 2004 CBC News reported that Karen Kain was named as the new Chair of the Canada Council for the Arts by the federal government. Kain is best known as one of the most celebrated ballerinas in Canadian history. "Her vast experience and dedication to the arts made her the ideal candidate for the position," reported Canadian Heritage Minister Liza Frulla.
Queen Elizabeth to visit Canada in 2005
Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip will visit Alberta and Saskatchewan from May 17-26, 2005 to help the two provinces celebrate the 100th anniversaries of both provinces. It will mark the Queen's 22nd visit to Canada. She first visited Canada in 1951 as Princess Elizabeth and made her first official visit as Queen, when she and Prince Philip went to Ottawa and Hull to open Parliament.
Canada's bills get a face lift
Spent any Canadian money lately? Over the last few years Canada's bills have been reissued, incorporating new security features and darker, richer colours; while highlighting the things that make us Canadians… well, Canadian. The $50 bill was the latest bill to get a facelift. See more about the new bills and security features on the Bank of Canada's website.
Canadian book to be translated into Finnish
Look for the book "Hanna's Suitcase" by Karen Levine. Kustannus Oy Majakka has just received a grant to have the book translated.
