Canadian in Finland - Aaron Civitaresse
I remember the first time I heard someone tell the joke in which different nationalities are asked to write an article about elephants. The joke describes that the French wrote about the love life of elephants, the British about hunting elephants in British East Africa and the Americans about how to breed bigger and better elephants. Then came the punch line; the Finns wrote about what elephants think about Finland. I remember trying to cover up my confusion by laughing politely, all the while thinking, “Huh, I don’t get it.” More
Women’s Lacrosse in Finland
Women in Finland have taken up lacrosse sticks as well. The national team features a number of players, including foreign-born players and they too have played in several tournaments at the international level. Women have been playing lacrosse in Finland since 2001, not long after the men got started.
In 2004 a women’s team played in the Berlin Open tournament, as a completely Finnish team. They played as the Helsinki Lacrosse Club and it marked the fourth year in a row that Finnish players participated in the Berlin open. More
